FACOEE: Advancing Competitive Manufacturing Through Energy Efficient Industrial Furnaces

The FACOEE energy efficient industrial furnaces project, developed in collaboration with Befesa Aluminio, Nervacero, Bs-tech Rolling Mill, and Tecnalia technology center, aims to develop innovative technologies to increase energy efficiency in industrial furnaces. Specifically, it focuses on these two areas of action:

Areas of Action

Recovery of Secondary Aluminum in Rotary Furnaces:

  • Multi-Door System: Reduces temperature loss, prevents re-dipping, and allows greater use of the load, all while decreasing casting time.
  • Regenerative Burners: Minimize metal oxidation.

Reheating of Steel Billets in Walking Beam Furnaces:

  • Improved Heat Distribution: Ensures uniform heating, reducing energy consumption.
  • Automated Controls: Enhances efficiency by optimizing furnace operations.

The FACOEE energy efficient industrial furnaces project has been co-financed by the SPRI, Business Development Agency of the Basque Government. This initiative not only aims to boost energy efficiency but also seeks to reduce operational costs and improve manufacturing competitiveness.

Benefits and Implications

The FACOEE project addresses several critical needs in the industrial sector:

  • Increased Efficiency: The use of energy efficient industrial furnaces leads to significant energy savings.
  • Cost Reduction: Lower energy consumption directly translates to reduced operational costs.
  • Environmental Impact: More efficient processes result in lower emissions, supporting environmental sustainability.
  • Technological Advancement: The project drives innovation in furnace technology, setting new standards for the industry.
