GHI Completes 20-Furnace Turnkey Project for Metalogenia Worth 13 Million Euros

GHI Industrial Furnaces has successfully designed, manufactured, and commissioned a complete smelting and heat treatment plant for Metalogenia’s new facility in Monzón, Huesca, northern Spain. This 20-furnace turnkey project, valued at 13 million euros, showcases GHI’s expertise and commitment to delivering advanced industrial solutions.

Metalogenia, a European leader in excavation machinery adapters, protectors, and attachment components, has made significant investments in continuous improvement and R&D to enhance customer productivity and performance. The newly constructed plant manufactures medium carbon, low alloy cast parts with high resistance to wear and impact.

Innovative Smelting Solutions

GHI designed an 8-tonne capacity arc furnace, leveraging its extensive experience from manufacturing over 150 furnaces. This furnace incorporates the latest technologies in transformers, conductor arms, hydraulic drives, and vault turning devices. It also features an exclusive regulation and control system that optimizes furnace operation and reduces electricity and electrode consumption.

The smelting setup includes an oxygen converter and auxiliary equipment such as loading baskets, an electrode nippling station, and ladle heaters, all designed and manufactured by GHI. Additionally, GHI provided comprehensive engineering services, including the general layout and load plans for civil works.

Advanced Heat Treatment

After smelting, parts undergo heat treatment to achieve the necessary hardness and ductility for demanding working conditions. GHI designed a fully automated plant for austenitizing, tempering, and quenching. Workers simply select the treatment recipe from a computer database, and the process is carried out automatically. The plant is equipped with advanced thermography cameras that measure the temperature of all processed parts in real-time.

GHI has also installed self-recuperative burners that ensure good temperature uniformity while reducing natural gas consumption, thus improving plant productivity. Both the smelting and heat treatment plants are integrated with sensor and data collection systems, enabling the implementation of GHI’s Industry 4.0 technology.
